Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy.
  3. Incorporate the eggs, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
  6. Divide the batter between cake pans.
  7. Bake until a toothpick comes out clean, about 30-35 minutes.
  8. Cool completely before frosting.
