A warm and comforting Overnight French Toast Casserole that is perfect for lazy weekends and holiday breakfasts, with a custard mixture soaking thick slices of bread.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices thick bread (brioche, day-old, or cinnamon rolls)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (or plant-based milk)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts, fresh berries, or whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Layer the chosen bread in a baking dish, packing it tightly.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in another bowl.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, pressing down slightly to ensure it is submerged.
  4. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  5. The next morning, uncover, sprinkle with any optional toppings, and bake until fluffy and golden.

Notes

For best results, use rustic bread that can absorb the custard without falling apart. Adjust the sweetness before baking for desired flavor.
